Nestled in the heart of Hilton Head Island, Harold's Diner is a beloved local gem that captures the essence of classic American comfort food with a uniquely charming twist. This small diner radiates a down-to-earth, no-frills vibe that perfectly complements its hearty, satisfying fare. Whether you’re craving a substantial breakfast or a late-night indulgence, Harold’s delivers a memorable dining experience that keeps people coming back time and again.
The diner’s menu is a treasure trove of flavors that pay homage to traditional Southern breakfast and diner classics, highlighted by generous portions and bold, soulful tastes. Start your day with their famous breakfast sandwiches—each one packed with two eggs and stacked high with savory fillings like bacon or sausage. The Omelette with Onions and the Biscuit and Gravy draw raves for their perfectly cooked eggs and rich, creamy gravy, a combination that warms you inside out. Equally irresistible is their Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich and the towering Big H Burger, especially when served with crispy, golden fries. For those with adventurous palates, the diner’s playful entrees offer intriguing “wild side” options such as Shake 'N' Bake Snake or Road Toad A La Mode, showcasing a quirky personality that sets Harold’s apart from typical diners.
The ordering system is refreshingly old school, adding to the diner’s charm. Guests fill out a paper order form at the counter, writing their name down, then wait for it to be called—an experience that feels personal and inviting, as several customers have noted. There’s a sense of community in this simple, efficient process, as you raise your hand and receive your piping hot, made-to-order meal with a smile. Just remember to bring cash, as this diner operates on a cash-only basis, a testament to its humble, neighborhood-focused roots.
Customers frequently praise Harold’s for its unbeatable value and generous portions. Steve “Buckeyesteve97” S highlights it as “the best breakfast value on HHI,” noting the impressive size of the plates and the lively atmosphere that sometimes includes unexpected entertainment. Dmitry Klyuev’s admiration for their breakfast sandwiches is unmistakable—he calls it “delicious” and a must-try. Meanwhile, Pat Montanaro sums up the experience perfectly, calling it “one of the best breakfasts” they’ve had and strongly recommending the biscuit and gravy alongside expertly prepared omelettes. The friendly, attentive staff keeps the vibe warm and inviting even during busy times, embodying Southern hospitality at its best.
Harold’s Diner may be modest in size, but it undeniably delivers big on flavor, comfort, and character. Its quirky menu options, combined with traditional diner staples, create a one-of-a-kind dining spot where every bite feels like coming home. Whether you’re a Hilton Head local or a visitor seeking an authentic taste of the island’s classic diner scene, Harold’s promises a satisfying, memorable meal that’s as generous in spirit as it is on the plate.
A cleaned up breakfast plate is my compliment to the cooks! Wanna see their food? Go in person and you won’t regret it. This diner serves delicious breakfast sandwiches! Fill out a paper order form and they call your name when it’s ready. Be sure to bring cash since that’s all they accept.
The best breakfast value on HHI and if you’re lucky you’ll have entertainment while you’re there. Portion sizes are huge and the service is awesome. It’s a counter style diner with a few small tables and come early for breakfast to beat the rush. They are also “rumored” to have one of the best burgers on HHI. Can’t wait to come back again!
One of the best breakfast we have had. It is a must stop in Hilton Head. You will not be disappointed. The biscuit and gravy was delicious. My wife's omelette was superb. A friendly place and quick service. I highly recommend this place for breakfast.
This was our first time at Harold's. The food was good. The service was good. Three people told us to make sure we put our name on our order. I was tempted not too just to see what happens.Maybe next time. You fill in your order sheet, put your name on it. Hand it in. When your food is ready they call the name on the ticket raise your hand and they bring it to you. Pretty simple concept. This is cash only.
This place is just a small hole in the wall that delivers a killer breakfast at a great price. The staff here is very friendly and keeps things running smoothly. Seating is very limited, so arrive early and be patient. To order, you simply fill out the paper slip they have on the counter. Their breakfast sandwiches have to weigh a half pound and have 2 eggs, which makes them an easy choice!
Cool old place with grumpy old woman working. Burger was pretty good, but bun was pretty burnt on one side. Fries have the 5 guys nice peanut oil flavor. Cheap as heck and fast.
This little place appears to be a popular local joint. NOTE THIS IS A CASH ONLY ESTABLISHMENT. It is a very small venue with mostly just counter space and a handful of 2-person table tops against the wall. When you walk in, you grab a paper menu and fill out your order and as you find you seat, your ticket will be handed to the cook to prepare your order. When your order is ready, they will call your name and if sitting at a table you will have to get up and have your food handed over the counter to you. I did have to grab my own utensils from the counter and ask for my coffee. That would probably be my only complaint is that process doesn’t seem too efficient but again it is a very small venue with not much room to maneuver. I got a traditional 2-egg breakfast over medium with grits and bacon. My brother got an egg sandwich with extra sausage and we shared an order of sausage gravy with toast. The food was good and filling. The signage in the place is pretty funny to read and after reading it, they probably don’t necessarily care whether they receive a good or bad review. In this case the food was very good and while a small venue, it has a great hometown local vibe that most people will enjoy. Update: came back next day for lunch and we got hamburgers. Probably one of the best if not the best hamburger I have ever eaten. Changing my review to 5 stars.
So cool...so fun. Great food and staff full of attitude. I wish I lived here so I could be a regular. An amazing mom and pop style place. You want normal...not here. You want local flavor by the bucket loads...this is your place ..
